For the trio of Rick Lees, Steph Dixon and Danielle Fleming this week set off from the Tyne Valley town with the aim of driving their bull on wheels, complete with horns and a wagging tail, to Spain by the beginning of next week as part of the Barcelona or Bust Rally.
The motorised bull, a “merked up” Mercedes, featured in last year’s Monte Carlo or Bust Rally and was destined for the scrapheap.
However, after it was voted by the other 84 teams as the best dressed vehicle, Rick and his team decided to keep it on the road.
And now, with the support of Haltwhistle’s Black Bull pub, they are looking to get the car to Barcelona within three days.
Rick said: “Everywhere we go, the car gets a lot of attention and there must be thousands of pictures on Facebook that people have put on.
“People nearly run us off the road trying to get pictures of us! I can imagine it will go down particularly well in Spain, the home of the bull run.”
The team set off from Haltwhistle on Wednesday and are due to start the rally on Saturday.
