COUNCILLORS in Haltwhistle are pressing ahead with plans to extend a popular play area in the town.
Haltwhistle Town Council owns and maintains the Westlands play area, which is regularly used by children and families.
But the council wants to acquire neighbouring land owned by Northumberland County Council, with a view to increasing the offering at Westlands.
Chairing Monday’s meeting in Haltwhistle, Coun. Alan Sharp said: “We have said that we would prefer an asset transfer of the land, but if we can’t get that we would want a long term lease.
“It’s so we can improve the park and put some extra play equipment there.”
Coun. Michael Ridley said: “I think the Westlands play area is worth a lot to the town. We have done a lot of work there and if we do get a lease, it needs to be a long term one.”
