COUNCILLORS in Haltwhistle are set to secure ownership of land for junior football.
Haltwhistle Town Council is determined to improve football facilities in the town, and has been eyeing up land at the Tyne Field, near Hadrian Enterprise Park, in recent months.
Now the landowner, Northumberland County Council, has offered to grant an asset transfer of a grassed area at the eastern end of the site.
Chairing Monday’s meeting of the town council, Coun. Alan Sharp said: “That piece of land has been offered to us and we should take this asset transfer. The amount of land at that bottom end of the field is considerably more than I first realised, and an asset transfer would give us a really good sized pitch.”
The town council remains hopeful of acquiring larger section of the Tyne Field for football use.
