MANY congratulations to the retiring chairman and treasurer of the village hall, Claire and Tracy, the team that has made sure the hall is now running at a profit and has a reasonable financial cushion to deal with emergencies.

This is quite an achievement and they were rightly praised and thanked by Alan Sharp, on behalf of us all, at the hall’s AGM last week.

Both took on the mantle of the hall with everything to learn and have managed things with the support of a skeleton committee who were thanked in their turn by Claire.

Work and family commitments mean they have to hand over, but both are willing to be called upon for those inevitable times, like Duck Day, when everyone is needed to make sure things go with a swing.

There will be a really full committee for the foreseeable future as there was a splendid turn-out from all the hall’s user groups, so the future looks good.

Also looking good, was the village’s wonderful new defibrillator which arrived in its box and now needs to be installed on the outside of the building and to be commissioned by the ambulance service which will then train as many of us as possible how to use it.

The youth club is, of course, the star in the crown of the village hall and Carole was able to report on its continuing success, with a reminder that fund-raising will always be necessary.

She explained the easy funding scheme that applies when we order goods online from most big firms, which can help to swell the club’s funds with no cost, just a click once registered. And we were encouraged to vote for Sainsbury’s to support the youth club when shopping!

It was agreed by the whole meeting that there should be a duck race as usual on the last Sunday in July and a further meeting to plan details of other attractions would be called in the near future.

THERE will be a dominoes drive in the village hall on Friday, May 29, at 7.30pm in aid of St Cuthbert’s Church.

GREEHEAD PTA is hosting a quiz night tomorrow at 7.30pm in the village hall – teams of up to six people. Raffle and refreshments are available.
