WE survived the deluge this week, with the fields flooding quietly but no ‘lake’ in the middle of the village. The work to fix the drain in the village centre really has done the trick as this was a downpour to tax any system. And the waters soon receded from the fields, as normal.

IT’S the last domino drive of the year in the village hall tonight at 7.30pm – great fun for young and old, in aid of St Cuthbert’s Church.

ON Wednesday, November 25, from 10am until 1pm, and 2pm until 5pm, the church will be open for the coming together of all the manifestations of Christmas angels that will be on display in the church on Sundays, November 29, December 6 and December 13.

People have been unearthing or creating angels for what should be a delightful exhibition of local talent and ingenuity.

WEDNESDAY is always youth club day in Greenhead. The youngsters meet throughout term time on a Wednesday evening and have been following an interesting programme thanks to the valuable support of many local people.

Despite the dark autumn evenings, the youth club has been on its travels as well as meeting regularly in the village hall.

Members would like to say a big thank you to SAC Richard Murray and his staff at Spadeadam for their hospitality.

They are also very grateful to Mr and Mrs Parkinson at Glendale for the ‘splashing good night’ they spent in the pool this month.

This week they will be working with their national park friends when the rangers come to the hall to make bird boxes with them.

In April, the youth club will be manning the information stall at Greenhead Farmers’ Market.

All local groups are welcome to bid for a turn on the information stand to welcome visitors and local residents to the market and to make sure that people know what good things they do.

ON Thursday, November 26, the Calico Hinnies Quilting group will meet in the village hall all day.

THE Hadrian Singers and a sister choir will be giving a concert in Holy Cross Church, in Haltwhistle, on Thursday, November 26, at 7.30pm.

There’s a very decent representation in the choir from Greenhead so do come and support them – we think you will enjoy the evening.

FRIDAY, November 27, is late night shopping in Haltwhistle.

This is an increasingly enjoyable evening with all the shops open hospitably – in fact, not just the shops – and the buzz is great!

Local services of every kind are under constant threat, so it is vital to encourage our local businesses and keep our town a lively and prosperous place.
