A CHARITY dog wash in Haltwhistle raised more than £1,000 for two charities.

Townsfolk brought their pets to Posh Paws Dog Grooming, based at the town’s former police station, on Sunday.

Business owner Stacey Waugh, and a team of fellow dog grooming specialists, handed out makeovers to canine customers.

Pet owners were given the chance to take part in a raffle, and also a competition to guess the name of a cuddly toy dog.

Their collective efforts raised £1,141 which will be shared between Muscular Dystrophy UK, and Wag & Company, a North-East based charity which helps older people spend time with “friendship dogs”.

Stacey said: “I have been amazed by the generosity of people. Lots of residents brought along their dogs, while local businesses contributed prizes and made donations.

“We did this in aid of two very worthy organisations, and I just want to say thank you to everybody who played a part.”
