SPECIALLY trained mountain rescue teams from across Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire were called upon to help search for missing Greenhead pensioner, Walter Hutton.

Members of the Northumberland National Park and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Teams were mobilised by Northumbria Police on Saturday before the search for the 74-year-old ended in tragedy.

Police confirmed that a body had been found on Sunday evening after Mr Hutton was last seen near his home address at around 7pm on Friday.

A swift water rescue team from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and two search dog teams from Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team (TWSMRT) and Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team, along with members of the public, also helped with the search efforts.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Police searching for missing Northumberland man, Walter Hutton, sadly located a body on Sunday.

"His next of kin have been informed and there is believed to be no suspicious circumstances.

"A report has been prepared for the coroner.

"Police would like to thank partner agencies and the public who have helped with our search."
