TYNEDALE is basking in the glow of a heatwave, with temperatures in the mid to high 20s since the start of the week.

Hexham recorded warmer temperatures than the likes of Barcelona and Rome on Monday, but the warm weather has come with its problems.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heat for the North-East, stating that there was an 80 per cent chance of the heat causing a danger to health.

The fire on Saddleworth Moor near Manchester, which has been raging since Sunday, brought a warning from the CLA, with regional director Dorothy Fairburn commenting: "We have witnessed the devastating impacts of the fire at Saddleworth Moor, on communities in the area as well as the landscape and local wildlife, and we appeal to the public to be extra vigilant when out and about in the countryside."

The association, which represents landowners and rural businesses, has warned the public not to discard cigarette butts or allow smouldering material to escape from barbecues or fires.

The warm weather has also been causing problems for rail travel around the country, as trains are forced to drive slower to reduce the risk of buckling tracks as they expand in the heat.

Network Rail have warned that delays and cancellations could occur due to these measures, although so far Northern have not had to slow down their trains.

Despite the issues, the people of Tynedale seem to be enjoying the heatwave, and have wasted no time in enjoying the warm weather.

Haltwhistle's outdoor swimming pool has been jam packed since the start of the week, with one member of staff commenting: "As soon as we get a heatwave the place is absolutely buzzing."

Meanwhile Northumbrian Water have issued a plea on social media, warning the public not to enter the water at their reservoirs, no matter how tempting.
