ON TUESDAY Hexham and Northern Marts had forward at their weekly sale 119 cattle, which included 78 over 30 month animals and five young bulls.Prime cattle. A larger show of prime cattle were keenly bid for with this being dearest trade seen at this centre.

There were 4, 512 prime sheep forward which comprised 4,033 lambs and 479 ewes. The largest show of the season so far for prime lambs met a brisk trade from start to finish despite being presented soaking wet. Well fleshed farm assured lambs of all breeds sold to advantage with those lacking flesh proving harder to cash. The sale was topped at £68.50 for a pen of Suffolk x lambs from Thockrington. LAST Wednesday at their Scots Gap centre Hexham and Northern Marts had forward an entry of 1,390 prime lambs to average 44.3kg, 128.9ppkg and £57.15 per head. An outstanding show of quality lambs were presented for sale with most sorts realising £10-£14 over weight.
With all consignments exceeding vendors expectations more lambs could have been sold.
