FOR their weekly sale on Tuesday Hexham and Northern marts had forward 45 cattle, which included 26 over 30 month animals. Prime cattle had a similar trade to previous week.ON SATURDAY Hexham and Northern Marts held their Summer Fur and Feather Sale and offered for sale by auction 450 caged lots of rare and minority breed poultry and waterfowl as well as over 60 lots of small animals and caged birds, 70 lots of associated equipment and 60 lots of hatching eggs. With a large show of birds on offer trade was easier than that seen in the spring of the year although quality types, as always were sought after with many lots exceeding vendors expectations.AT THEIR weekly sale on Friday, Hexham and Northern Marts has forward 96 store cattle. A wet night meant that there were plenty of customers for a small show of cattle and subsequently a good trade was had by all with steers selling to £800 for Angus x from Park House Farm, Harbottle and heifers sold to £790 for Limousin x from East Newham. We anticipate a large entry of quality cattle at our Anniversary Show and Sale next week.LAST Wednesday Hexham and Northern Marts at their weekly Scots Gap Auction Mart sale for prime sheep, had an entry of 794 head, with the lambs averaging 44kg, 124.3p/kg and £54.69 per head. There was a quality show of well fleshed lambs forward with buyers commenting that they were just what they wanted. The top price paid per kilo was for a pen of 43kg Texel x lambs from Tuthill which realised 136.7p and top price per head was £62.60 for a pen of 52kg Suffolk x lambs from East White Hill. Armitstead, Pennersaughs, Ecclefechan. Breeding cattle met an easier trade for a poorer quality show. Top price of £1,050 for a Limousin cow with bull calf at foot from R.M. and P. Also forward on Tuesday were a total of 3,888 prime sheep, comprised of 3372 lambs and 516 cast ewes and rams. Lambs began a moderate trade following a slide in Monday’s markets. However, as the sale progressed the trade hardened and lambs sold in the second half of the sale would benefit as the competition became more intense. The sale was topped at £60 twice for Texel x lambs from Peel Flatt and Watch Currock. The top price per kilo was 131.1p for a superb pen of 45kg three quarter Texel lambs from Nunwick which realised £59.

The quality ewes continue to be a marvellous trade for the time of year, plainer ewes proved harder to cash.
