Highland Show win makes a great double for heifer

STOCKSFIELD Holstein breeder Cameron Baty lifted one of the main awards at last week's Royal Highland Show, at Ingliston, Edinburgh, with his home-bred cow taking the first-in-calf heifer placing.

Tyne Valley Talent Valrie was awarded top position by judge Paul Harrison, of Brenkney Hill, Heddon-on-the-Wall.

The cow has maintained her impressive show record, having taken first-in-calf heifer at this year's Northumberland County Show at Corbridge.

“I'm delighted to win the Highland Show with this animal,” said Mr Baty, of North Acomb Farm. “To have won both the Northumberland and Highland Show is a tremendous thrill.

“The current bluetongue restrictions now in place in various parts of the UK have ensured the Highland is likely to be viewed as the main event of the show season.”

Mr Harrison described Talent Valrie as an outstanding animal and a comfortable winner in her class.

"This animal shows tremendous power, strength and dairyness and is correct in every detail,” he said.

“She typifies the modern cow, offering angularity, depth of rib and cleanness of bone.”
