YOUNGSTERS led the way with an impressive line-up of entries at the 93rd Beaufront Show.

Children excelled in a range of classes, from vegetable growing to creative baking, at Hexham’s Beaufront School on Saturday.

Toby Kidd won the Dr Nisbet Memorial Trophy for most points in the open children’s classes, as well as two best in show rosettes for fairy cakes and a vegetable animal.

Show secretary John Middleton said: “The quality of entries remained as high as ever, with everybody enjoying the day from the children’s sports to the final raffle with over 40 prizes.”

“It turned out to be a fine, bright day after we had dodged the rain showers.”

Show president Aidan Cuthbert presented the prestigious trophies, which included the president’s silver challenge cup for best garden, won by David and Janet Browell.

The William Chaplin memorial challenge rose bowl for most points in the fruit, vegetable and flower classes, and the Alan & Joan Baxter millennium salver for individual with the most points in show, were both awarded to John Middleton.

The Harold David Cuthbert memorial challenge trophy for most points in the rose classes was won by Anne Pickering.

The Lady Raleigh trophy for most points in the industrial classes and the Mrs Tiffin memorial trophy for most points in the jam classes, went to Brid Crowley.

The produce auction was a great success. It raised £100 for this year’s chosen charity, the Hextol Foundation.

The committee expressed its thanks to judges Eileen Burns, Ann Holmes, Margaret Mole, John Cooper and Ailsa Dixon.
