SCHOOLCHILDREN in Corbridge earned top marks for fun over the weekend at their annual fair.

In a decades-old summer tradition, Corbridge First School’s summer fair on Saturday kicked off with a colourful parade through the village.

Undeterred by the heavy showers, children set off from St Andrew’s Church decked out in imaginative costumes on the theme of ‘God’s Creatures.’

After marching through the village, the fair got under way in the first school grounds.

The fete day within the grounds on St Helen’s Lane was a hive of activity, with bouncy castles, crazy gold, nail painting and traditional games such as apple bobbing.

A football tournament was also held on the day involving two teams from Corbridge First School and one team from St Mary’s First School in Hexham.

The fair is the school’s key fund-raising event and this year an impressive £2,000 was raised, which will be used to develop the school’s outdoor learning spaces.

Deputy head Louise Storey said: “It was raining terribly, but we had a brilliant turnout in spite of that.

“It was brilliant – a really fun day, the rain didn’t dampen any spirits.

“And it’s great to have that kind of support from the local community.”
