TWO Tynedale music festivals are in the running for the UK Festival Awards.

After seven successful years at Tynedale Park, Corbridge Festival has made it on to the shortlist of categories which recognise the best small festival, best family festival and the top grassroots event, against national competition.

And hot on its heels is the Allen Valleys Folk Festival, which also features in the grassroots and small festival categories.

Well-known events such as Kendal Calling and the Cambridge Rock Festival are among those up against the Tynedale entries.

Organiser of Corbridge Festival, Cheryl Durkin, said: "This is all done on public nominations and public votes, so it would be amazing to bring an award back to Corbridge.

"It's taken seven years to build the event up and our aim has always been to stay family-friendly and inclusive, so it's lovely to have some recognition.

"Just being shortlisted is fantastic."

The UK Festival Awards has been recognising and rewarding the efforts of the nation's festival industry since 2004.

The award winners are determined through a combination of online fan votes and industry experts.

Voting for the categories closes on Monday, October 23 and the award ceremony is due to be held at the Printworks music and arts venue in London on November 30.
