THE former Lloyds Bank building in Corbridge is on the market with a guide price of just under £500,000.

The Middle Street property, known as Lloyds Bank House, is a prominent feature in the village but has not been used as a bank since the branch closed in March.

Lloyds said that the bank was earmarked for closure due to a drop in footfall, and that approximately 93 per cent of customers had already begun to use alternatives, such as the Hexham branch.

Opening hours had been reduced drastically over the years, leaving it to operate on two mornings each week: from 9.30am to 1pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

And according to the bank, the three-storey property was left with only five regular weekly personal and business customers, with usage declining by 38 per cent in the last year alone.

Now the building looks set to get a new lease of life as a three-bedroom detached home, with the property marketed by Mike Anton & Associates, based in the village.
