YOUNG artists at Corbridge Middle School have used their skills to spread the message of peace.

Youngsters aged 11 to 13 have been supported by Tynedale Lions Club to enter the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest which encourages pupils to creatively express what peace means to them.

The 2016-2017 contest theme is A Celebration of Peace and allows students to share their unique images of peace with others across the world, to promote greater tolerance and understanding. Dozens of posters featuring bright colours and hand-drawn designs were created by students of art teacher Gaynor Walker-Thomas.

They will be on display in Hexham Abbey until February 21.

“The winning entry, produced by year eight student Lizzie Scott, is included in the display and this was forwarded to a regional competition as part of the international contest,” said president of Tynedale Lions Club Peter Hawkins.

“We’re grateful to Corbridge Middle School, and particularly Mrs Walker-Thomas and the competition entrants, for taking part in this contest.

“The club is also grateful to Hexham Abbey for displaying the peace posters produced by the pupils.”
