CORBRIDGE  learned last Tuesday that Northumberland County Council’s strategic planning committee had approved outline plans for 233 houses on land west of Milkwell Lane.

The one thing which is still unclear, however, is access to the site, with Corbridge Parish Council still awaiting a reply on several points about the issue.

Gladman Developments is now expected to sell off the land to a series of building developers and the houses will be phased in, with a number of planning applications expected in the next few years.

Another issue of major concern is the village’s infrastructure, with fears it will be unable to cope and that extra surface water could create more flooding in certain areas.

CORBRIDGE Parish Council was dealt a blow last week with the death of former vice-chairman Phil Kenny.

Before he retired, Prof. Kenny was Dean of Law at Northumbria University School of Law for 28 years.

He also wrote many publications on law issues. In his spare time, he was a devoted family man and loved a game of golf.

Our sympathies are with his wife, Ann, and family at this time.
