THE top-notch acoustics at St Andrew‘s Church in Corbridge will be put to good use this weekend for the annual Corbridge Chamber Music Festival.

The 17th annual event, which was founded by the Gould Piano Trio – Lucy Gould (voilin), Alice Neary (cello) and Benjamin Frith (piano) – gets under way on Friday at 7.30pm with a concert featuring works by Hummel, Brahms and Schubert.

A Saturday morning coffee concert and an afternoon workshop with talented young musicians, led by Robert Plane (clarinet) and Amy Harman (bassoon), will build towards one of the festival highlights tomorrow night.

Works by Beethoven will be performed from 7.30pm, before the jazz-tinged concert, Postcards from America , featuring work by John Williams, Serly, Carter and Martinu from 10pm.

On Sunday, the festival service will be led by Bishop Gordon Mursell, former Dean of Birmingham and Bishop of Stafford, and accompanied by performances directed by Martin Neary, from the Corbridge Festival Singers, with festival musicians and organist Marcus Wibberley.

Music writer, broadcaster and lecturer Richard Wigmore will present the afternoon concert Brahm’s Indian Summer , before the festival draws to a close on Sunday night with Telemann‘s Trumpet Concerto .
