AN Oftsed inspector has rated a Corbridge nursery as “good with outstanding elements”.

Staff and children at Corbridge Pre-School were observed by inspector Emma Allison in June, with parents also asked for their feedback.

And in all four of the key areas of assessment – which include effectiveness of the leadership, quality of teaching, personal development and welfare and outcomes for children – the pre-school maintained the “good” grading it was given back in 2014.

Manager Claire Milburn said: “We’re really pleased with the report, which acknowledges all the work that goes into getting the best outcomes for the children.

“We know there are always areas where we can improve further, for example, we’ll be offering cooked lunches from September instead of children bringing their own packed lunch.”

The pre-school has 20 places and is run by four members of staff, one of whom has early years teacher status.

Mrs Allison said: “The highly qualified staff team use their extensive knowledge of how children learn well and staff are passionate about their work.”

She also acknowledged that the Pre-School was highly regarded by parents, who were able to participate and monitor their children’s learning journey via an online record called Tapestry.

The report added that children settle well and have the support they need to make a smooth transition to school.

Established over 30 years ago, Corbridge Pre-School is a small community service based in the grounds of Corbridge First School, providing childcare and education for two to four-year-olds.

“We have really good relationships with parents and the wider community, and we have always made sure fees are kept low and affordable for local families,” said Claire.
