ONE month after work commenced, Corbridge Cricket Club’s new pavilion is starting to take shape.
The new structure, raised on stilts by 1.5m, will replace the previous pavilion which was destroyed by the deluge of Storm Demond in December, 2015.
And the project has recently received a cash boost.
Coun. Jean Fearon, Conservative county councillor for Corbridge, has recently contributed £10,000 from her Northumberland County Council member’s funding to the rebuilding work.
Northumberland County Council has also contributed another £15,000 from its building reserves budget.
During a site visit last week, Coun. Fearon, who will be standing down after 20 years’ service before the May election, said she was pleased to be able to help with the project.
Corbridge businessman Nick Oliver, who has been chosen by the Conservative Party to stand as Coun. Fearon’s replacement, said: “The cricket club plays a major part in our community.
“My wife Katie and I, and four of our children, have played some cricket for Corbridge, so it has been a big part of our lives, as it has for many others.
“When this project is finished, we will have a stunning, flood-resistant club house in a beautiful setting.”
Club chairman Simon Walker said: “We are extremely grateful for Jean’s important contribution and for the additional funding from the county council.”
The club has now launched a Just Giving appeal to raise funds to equip the kitchen in the new club house. Donations can be pledged at https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/corbridge-cricketclub/new-pavilion
