A CORBRIDGE councillor is urging Barclays to reconsider its decision to remove the only 24-hour cash machine in the village.

The recent shock announcement that the village would lose its second bank branch in the space of a year rocked the community. Barclays said declining footfall at the only remaining bank branch in the village means they have no choice but to close its doors in November.

“I met with the manager at the Corbridge branch and the head of community banking,” said Coun. Nick Oliver, county councillor for Corbridge.

“We can’t affect any change but I would like to do all we can to try and at least keep a cash point.”
