AFTERNOON tea was served up to almost friends and supporters of a Corbridge care facility to mark a quarter of a century since it opened its doors to residents.

Charlotte Straker House in Corbridge opened its doors in September 1992 in its current form and a garden party was held on Sunday to mark the 25-year milestone.

Visitors also joined residents to view a special exhibition of photos and information charting the first few years of life at Charlotte Straker House.

Supporters from Corbridge Youth Initiative, Tynedale Lions, Hexham and Tynedale Rotary Clubs and other local groups attended.

The sun shone, so everyone was able to sit outside and listen to a speech made by Dr Bill Cunningham, chairman of the trustees, who thanked everyone for their support and spoke about our charity's achievements.

"It is a major and I think unique achievement for a local charity like ourselves to celebrate their 25th anniversary, and it is a testament to the strong support of the local community and the high quality of our staff," he told the crowd that gathered.

"The last 24 months at Charlotte Straker have been fabulous, with the opening of our Community Respite Care Bed, plus great CQC and county council inspection reports.

" I am so grateful to the dedication of our staff, some of whom have worked for us for a very long time, and our volunteers, who give up their time and energy to ensure our charity remains vibrant and viable."
