THE streets of Corbridge were packed to the brim as thousands turned out to enjoy the village’s annual midsummer’s evening.

Live music and the smell of good food filled the streets as the village marked the summer solstice.

The event, last Thursday, saw traders, community groups and local councillors come together to create what has become one of the highlights of the Corbridge social calendar, acting as summer’s answer to the pre-Christmas late night shopping event.

James Routledge, of Forum Books, said: "It was fantastic, a really busy evening as always, it’s one of the busiest nights of the year.

"It was absolutely heaving, but this is our fourth year doing this so we’re well practised by now.

"This last week we were celebrating independent book shop week, and it was also the 50th anniversary of Judith Kerr’s book The Tiger Who Came To Tea."

Among the stalls was a vintage ‘G and Tea’ party jointly hosted by Vintage at the Tower and Queen Bea’s Afternoon Tea, raising money for The Cure Parkinson’s Trust.

Other activities included Morris Dancing and a mini boating lake in the grounds of St Andrew’s Church.
