A FORMER construction worker has hung up his hard hat and set up a business at Vallum Farm specialising in baby-led weaning.

Keith Brownsword’s new company, Babyled Spreads, has a focus on producing recipes for weaning babies that are both healthy and organic.

Keith, from Newcastle, had worked in the construction industry in multiple roles for his whole life before the birth of his daughter two years ago.

When going through the weaning stage with his daughter, Keith began to look at ways of feeding her healthily and started to research everything there was to know about baby-led weaning.

“I was sat with friends from a pre-natal group eating a packed lunch with our children, when one of them mentioned how hard it was to find easy lunches,” he said.

After conducting his research, Keith gained an in-depth knowledge and thought it would be a good idea to use this information to go into the industry full-time.

“It was definitely hard to go from the boisterous atmosphere on a building site to working mainly with mothers,” he said.

“I’d always wanted to run my own business, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. This is an ideal way of being able to express myself like never before.”

The recipe are designed to taste good while introducing babies to solid food.

Babyled Spreads can be found at Vallum Farm on the Military Road, East Wallhouses.
