Hotel is going green

A WARK hotel has installed a state-of-the-art economically friendly boiler to reduce the business’ carbon emissions.
The Battlesteads country inn and restaurant has installed a wood chip boiler to ensure a greener future for the hotel.
The installation comes after the business took advice from NEWHeat – a new initiative from One NorthEast designed to encourage businesses to switch their heat energy supply.
The owners at the Battlesteads needed to change their energy supply because the village’s allocation was at its limit.
Owner Richard Slade said: “Once we had the place up and running, we found that, should all the guests require a shower at the same time, the mains electrics blew.
“The obvious option was to apply for more electricity, but this was not possible as the village was already operating on the maximum allocation.”
Richard drafted in the help of the free NEWHeat service to see if wood heat could benefit the business and the results have been positive.
Richard continued: “The installation of the wood chip boiler has meant that we get much more heat for our money.”
NEWHeat has provided advice on wood chip installation to 100 businesses in the region and also advises companies on whether it would be worthwhile for them to switch their energy supply.
