Auschwitz exhibit

AFTER accompanying a group of young people from Stockton to the remains of Auschwitz in Poland, a Stocksfield design company has been commissioned to create an exhibition on the visit.

Colin Williams Design, based within Stocksfield Hall, will help the seven young people who took part in the four-day trip, to explore their experiences during the visit to the largest of the Nazi concentration camps.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum states that 1.1 million people died at the camp. Reports show that more than 700,000 people visit the camp annually.

The project, which is being led by Preston Hall Museum in Stockton, began with film-maker Tony Glover and designer Leanne Pearce from Colin Williams Design spending time with the young people during their visit to develop the themes for the exhibition and film footage which will also be used.

Leanne said: “It was a very emotional place to visit, but spending time at Auschwitz helped the young people understand the provocative, emotional and challenging messages they wish to share through the exhibition to commemorate the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.”

The finished exhibition is planned to open on January 27, 2009 at Arc in Stockton to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
