CHILDREN from Bellingham First School made the most of their school being closed this week by taking in the great outdoors in Kielder.

New flues are being installed to the chimney which serves the boilers for Bellingham first and middle schools – a job which will take two weeks, with some of the work taking place during half-term.

Bellingham First School children and have been making the bus trip to Kielder First School for lessons this week, where they have been able to mix with Kielder pupils and get stuck into outdoor activities.

The children have been den building, completing the Gruffalo trail, the Kielder maze and making stick men.

Wendy Goddard, headteacher of Bellingham First School, said: “We decided to turn a negative into a positive and the children have absolutely loved it.”

Bellingham Middle School has been making use of Bellingham Town Hall and the Masonic Hall to hold their lessons this week.

The schools are expected to return to normal from Monday, October 30.
