NORTH Tyne groups and organisations are being invited to find out how they could benefit from a share of £250,000.

Hexham-based company Vattenfall is putting the community benefit fund in place following the installation of the 16-turbine Ray Wind Farm, near Kirkwhelpington.

Communities within a 10km radius of the wind farm can benefit from the fund, which is due to commence in mid-2017 and run each year for the lifespan of the wind farm – currently expected to be 20 to 25 years.

The Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland is hosting two community information events, in partnership with Vattenfall, to discuss how the fund will support community groups and voluntary organisations in the area.

The events will be held on Tuesday, April 4, at Kirkharle Courtyard, from 4pm to 8pm, and Thursday, April 6, at Elsdon Village Hall, from 4pm to 8pm.
