But the newly-opened facility is not just about books, for it will also provide extra space for lessons which include group work.
Acting headteacher Jo Trotter said the library had been created within the school, thanks to fund-raising by the PTA, and also a grant from the Diocese of Newcastle.
She explained: “Reading and the love of books are central to what we are trying to teach the children.
“Our old library was cold, damp and simply not fit for purpose. This lovely new one at the very heart of school sends out an important message about valuing books and reading.”
The new library will also assist with the school’s ‘reading ambassadors’ programme, in which year 4 pupils share books with younger pupils.
