LAST week, I promised you an update on the money raised in Wark’s two Macmillan coffee events in the town hall and the school.

I’m pleased to let you know that the two events between them raised just shy of £500, with just over £355 at the town hall in the morning and another £136 at the school.

A fantastic result and thanks go to the people who organised the events and all who attended.

THE Birtley Gardening Group has started again, and the next meeting is on Tuesday, October 13, in Birtley Village Hall.

The topic of the evening will be dahlias with the speaker Kelvin Vincent.

Mr Vincent is a Royal Horticultural Society judge and his talk should be an interesting one.

As this is the first meeting of the new season, membership subscriptions will be due and new members are always welcome.

Membership is £20 and the evening starts at 7.30pm for 7.45pm.

THE first Highlights event of the season will be coming to the town hall in just a couple of weeks’ time.

Three Boxes will be on Saturday, October 24, at 7.30pm.

The show is by three acoustic guitar players – Clive Gregson, Mark Griffiths and Andy Roberts – who have played with some very famous names, but whose combined playing is much more than the sum of its parts.

Their material covers a very wide spectrum – folk, blues, swing, ballads, jazz and beyond.

It should be another great night.

There will be a bar and a raffle, of course.

You can get tickets from Vicky Herod by emailing her on warktownhall@gmail.com or by ringing her on (01434) 230180.
