FOLLOWING the installation of defibrillators across the Rede Valley, attention has turned to the urgent need to recruit community first responders.

Currently, Damien Weston, based in Rochester, is the only first responder in the valley. While he is doing a fantastic job and is on-call many hours each week, it is essential that additional volunteers come forward to participate in this important work.

Damien has kindly agreed to meet those interested and provide details of what would be required if you wish to become a volunteer.

Those interested to learn more about the role before making a commitment, are invited to email Otterburn parish clerk Martin Chilvers, at otterburnpc@hotmail.co.uk

A FUND-RAISING quiz will be held at Otterburn Castle hotel on Wednesday, December 2, starting at 8pm.

The quiz is being held earlier in the month to avoid clashing with the Christmas whist drive at Otterburn Memorial Hall. The quiz will be in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Donated raffle prizes will be gratefully received.

Last month’s quiz raised £127 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

THE next meeting of the Redesdale Society will be held at Otterburn Memorial Hall on Friday, December 4, starting at 7.30pm – not December 11 as previously publicised.

The guest speaker will be Bill Burlton who will give an illustrated talk entitled My adventures in the Munros. The talk will be followed by mulled wine and a light supper.

THE fund-raising Christmas whist drive in aid of Otterburn Memorial Hall will be held at the hall on Wednesday, December 9, starting at 7.30pm. There is a small entry charge which includes a light supper and everyone is welcome.

Donated raffle prizes can be given to Yas Oliver, Gary Satchwell, or any other member of the committee.

TWO fund-raising events in aid of Rochester Village Hall will be held at the hall during December. The first – a domino drive – is on Friday, December 11, starting at 7pm. The second – a whist drive – is on Friday, December 18, starting at 7.30pm.

Both events are dependent on the weather; the organisers will advise if they need to be cancelled.

OTTERBURN carpet bowlers hosted a game with Thropton last Tuesday. The home team won after a good night with very good friends.

DESPITE atrocious weather, there was a good attendance at the recent fund-raising prize bingo in aid of the Phoenix sixty-plus social club. The event raised £604 for club funds and the organisers wish to thank all those who supported it or gave donations or prizes.

OTTERBURN’S young footballers have been unable to play any of their recent fixtures due to bad weather. However, the club would like to thank Kevin and Kath Oliver who sponsored their last home game and also Bellingham Young Farmers Club for its very kind donation of £250.
