BELLINGHAM Camping and Caravaning Club site at Brown Rigg has been hit by a spate of trespassing.

Teenagers have disturbed holiday-makers on the site twice over the last week.

The intruders ran around the site, disconnected electricity supplies and banged on the doors of several caravans, before making their escape through the fields near The Croft.

Site owner Johanna Avis is concerned that the miscreants could deter guests from returning to the site.

Johanna said: “I don’t think they realise the impact of what they’re doing. It stops people coming back and we always do our best to encourage people to return.

“Many of our guests are elderly and feel vulnerable. Occasionally, some run medical equipment.

“We’re keeping vigilant and we’ve put in night-time cameras.”

Johanna and co-owner David Berrisford have invested around £200,000 in the site since taking it over in 2013, and it now attracts 7000 visitors per year.

Johanna informed the police on both occasions and officers are now patrolling the area.

Neighbourhood Inspector Pam Bridges said: “We take reports of this type of anti-social behaviour seriously and we will take action against those found responsible.”

Anyone with information about the trespassers should contact police on 101 quoting reference 1112 of 02/12/17.
