DUE to demand, clay pigeon shooting sessions at a Tynedale club are to be aimed at women only.

Greenhaugh-based Kielder Sports, which specialises in shooting, archery and bike hire, will host a ladies’ open shooting day on April 15.

Owner Frankie Parker has noticed that shooting is popular among females in the area, however, many told him they didn’t feel comfortable to shoot with male members.

He said: “A lot of women are interested in the sport, but they don’t want to come to club days because they don’t want to be intimidated by the men.

“We do have four female members in the club, which is really good, but hopefully a few more might come from the open day. In fact, it would be lovely to get a 50-50 mix, but I don’t think that will happen.”
