Mud fest draws the crowds to North Tyne

HUNDREDS of people waded through mud and water on a historic North Tyne estate on Saturday.

Adults and children tacked 10k, 5k, and 2k mud obstacle courses during Mestival, at Hesleyside Hall near Bellingham.

Back for a second consecutive year, Mestival was a family friendly day organised by Marcus Cram, the son of athletics legend Steve Cram, and Hesleyside's owners, William and Anna Charlton.

Participants also enjoyed locally sourced food and drink and entertainment, with live music all afternoon from a line-up of acts.

William Charlton said: "Mestival was muddier and more fun than ever. "Anna and I were delighted with the success of this year's event.

"It was particularly rewarding to hear from seasoned mud runners who said that it was one of the best courses they'd done."
