THERE is a new notice board at our church – much more substantial than the previous one. Thanks are due to a person in our village who made and installed this.

THE new priest in charge for our benefice will be coming to live at the vicarage in August and commence his duties in early September.

The Rev. Steve Wilkinson is married to Melanie, a teacher. They have three children. Steve was in the police force prior to being ordained.

TWO weeks ago, Liesbeth Langford was invited to a special lunch at the Canadian High Commission in London where she told her story about the liberation of the town in Holland where she lived at the age of seven.

The Canadian forces were responsible for the liberation.

At that time, Liesbeth was given an insignia which was sewn onto a jacket which Liesbeth presented to the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.

She was presented with a new set of rank and a memory box.

CHRIS Francis has now walked well over 400 miles, and in a week or so will be approaching Yorkshire. Nearly £2,000 has been raised for the hospice.

It is worth noting that every pound donated goes directly to Tynedale Hospice at Home. Chris himself is funding all the costs of any accommodation and food etc.

THE scarecrow competition which is being held as part of this village’s celebration for the Queen’s official 90th birthday is open to all.

Do start thinking about designs and where they can be displayed in the village.

Nearer the time, please register your details at reception at the George Hotel.

The winner will receive a family membership at the leisure club for six weeks.

HERE’S a reminder about the request to record ‘what did you do on Friday, May 13’.

Do put pen to paper, take a photograph or draw something etc and drop it off at our shop within a couple of days after May 13.

NEXT Tuesday is folk music night at the Crown Inn. All welcome either to participate or just listen.

NEXT Thursday, May 12, at 7pm in the village hall, it is the annual parish council meeting followed by a normal council meeting.

TOMORROW, Humshaugh Cricket Club’s first XI will host Stamfordham.

KEEN observers in our village will have noticed that Ian and Elsie Lambie have taken up residence in Waynriggs Terrace.

They had lived and farmed at Haughton Mains Farm for over 34 years, raising sheep, cattle and growing crops.

We wish them all the best in their new home.

THE church service at St Peter’s this Sunday is morning prayer at 9.30am.
