THERE'S  an opportunity for a relaxing, even romantic, evening because tonight it is film night in the village hall with the showing of Noel Coward’s black and white classic Brief Encounter.

The evening will start with high tea (optional) and a short talk about this iconic film. The usual range of liquid refreshments will also be available. You can pay at the door which will open at 6.45pm for a 7pm start.

TALKING of romance, the shop has a supply of Valentine cards, including some hand-made ones produced by Rene Baillie, still wonderfully romantic in her mid-90s.

ON  Tuesday, it’s quiz night in the Crown Inn. Starting at 8pm, the evening will raise funds for a trip to Bamburgh in March for Humshaugh First School.

If you can, please support this group of school fund-raisers which organises so many events for us to enjoy in our village.

A REMINDER that the meditation group welcomes everyone to its meetings in the village hall supper room each Thursday from 2pm-3.30pm.

The sessions are held weekly, but you need not attend every week.

A LENT discussion group will be held in Humshaugh, in the Langfords’ home (The Coinings, East Farm), for five weeks starting on Thursday, February 18.

The group will follow a courseentitled The Psalms – Prayers For Today’s Church. The meetings start at 11am and end with a light lunch.

ON Sunday, in St Peter’s Church, Humshaugh, there will be a morning prayer service at 9.30am with reader Ken Hewitt.
