ON Sunday, November 29, at teatime there’s an open mic session in the Crown Inn. For all amateur performers this is your chance for five minutes of fame, or for the rest of us to sit back and be entertained by some very good acts.

HUMSHAUGH First School is hosting an Advent soup lunch on Tuesday, December 1, starting at 1.30pm. The children will be singing festive songs and they would love an audience; everyone will be made most welcome. If you need a lift ring Tel. (01434) 689438.

THE Friends of Humshaugh First School would like to thank everyone for supporting their Christmas market, which raised £500. The money will be used to take the children to the theatre to see King Arthur.

TALKING about theatres, Humshaugh Youth Theatre will be putting on its spectacular Christmas show on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5.

To avoid disappointment don’t leave it until the last minute to buy your tickets – on sale in the shop.

IF you need an incentive to finish preparing your garden for winter then you need to know that the last brown bin collection is next Thursday, December 3.

ALSO on Thursday, December 3, the library bus will be parked near the Crown from 11.40am until 12.20pm. Closely followed by the barber bus from 12.30pm until 3.30pm, when the village’s men and boys can get a haircut. No appointment necessary.

THE Mothers’ Union (MU) will meet on Thursday, December 3, at 2pm, in the Langford’s home. Adrian Langford will give a talk, entitled Faith in Blue Lights, about his work with the ambulance service. There will also be Christmas celebrations and refreshments.

On Bonfire Night Humshaugh MU members enjoyed John Cox’s talk and performance of Handel’s Music for Royal Fireworks, demonstrating how different the music sounded then to now when it’s played on modern instruments. MU members extend Christmas wishes to all.

ON Sunday, November 29, Archdeacon of Lindisfarne, the Ven. Peter Robinson, will be returning to the benefice to take this first service of the church’s year.

The service will be held in St Mungo’s, Simonburn, at 11am. Everyone is welcome and, hopefully, the archdeacon will give us an update on progress in the search for the new vicar for our benefice.
