The Duchy Homes scheme will consist of two, three, four and five bedroom properties, including bungalows.
New parking bays will be provided opposite Humshaugh First School to help alleviate existing on road parking which some residents consider unsafe.
Aidan Jackson Hamilton, of Duchy Homes, said: “Duchy Homes is delighted to have received unanimous planning approval from Northumberland County Council’s planning committee for the 21 new homes at Humshaugh.
“We, as a company, are keen to engage with the community through the build period to ensure everything is done to the very highest of standards that we pride ourselves on.”
Plans to build in the village have been met with anger from residents. Many have argued that the number of new homes would have a detrimental effect on the character of the village.
The concerns were voiced at a public meeting in May, where villagers also raised issues of flooding and safety at the school crossing.
