A CHARITY golf day has raised £5,500 to support services for disabled people, their families and carers at Calvert Trust Kielder.

The annual golf day was held at Ponteland Golf Club this year and was sponsored by Robson Print, Handelsbanken and Rainton Construction.

A total of 52 players across 13 teams from local businesses, including TLW Solicitors, Garwen Enterprises, Quantum Pharmaceuticals and Pearsons, battled it out to take the top prize.

The winning team was Rainton Construction.

Other winners on the day included Ben Squire, who got ‘nearest to the pin’, and Alan Davison, who got the ‘straightest drive’.

Rainton Construction team captain Dave Elliott said: “We know what brilliant work Calvert Trust Kielder does and we’re proud to support them – having a great day out golfing whilst we’re doing it is an added bonus!”

Charlotte Gaunt, a fund-raiser for Calvert Trust Kielder organised and managed the event.

She said: “This year’s golf day was another resounding success with a fantastic effort from all those involved and a fantastic amount of money raised for the charity.

“The support of local businesses is absolutely vital for Calvert Trust Kielder.

“The time they give, donations they make and funds they generate means we can continue our work with adults and disabled children.

“Everyone at Calvert Trust Kielder is very grateful, thank you.”

The golf day is just one of a number of corporate and community fund-raising events organised and/ or supported by Calvert Trust Kielder each year.

The next big fund-raiser is The Calvert Ball, ‘Under Dark Skies’ on October 15.
