A WARK hotel has been recognised for its green credentials in a national awards scheme.

The Battlesteads Hotel was named Eco Hotel of the Year at the AA Hospitality Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Monday.

Battlesteads Hotel has a goal to provide guests with a total experience of sustainable tourism without sacrificing luxury.

It has created a kitchen garden and two polytunnels for growing fruit, vegetables and herbs.

It also produces green energy, has an electric car charging point and a sustainable wine list featuring over 20 specialist wines, including natural, biodynamic and organic varieties.

Battlesteads is also the only hotel in the UK to have its own observatory and was awarded Dark Sky Discovery Site status.

Hotel owner Richard Slade said: “On behalf of the team at Battlesteads, we are delighted to have won this prestigious award and to be recognised for our eco credentials.

“We have always tried to be as environmentally-friendly as we can in all aspects of the business, and we are constantly looking for new innovations to keep us at the forefront of eco-tourism.”.

All of the winners will appear in the latest edition of the 2017 AA Hotel, Restaurant and Pub Guide.
