CONTROVERSIAL plans for a 37 home development on the outskirts of Bellingham have been revised.

The proposals for housing on farmland between the Bridgeford View estate and Noble Street on the West Woodburn road were submitted by the Duke of Northumberland’s property arm, Northumberland Estates.

A total of 32 objections were submitted on Northumberland County Council’s planning portal, while there have been no supporting comments.

Opponents of the plans objected on the basis of strain on car parking and roads, a lack of demand for extra housing and the adverse visual impact for residents of Briar Hill and Bridgeford View.

The application was supposed to have been determined by March 22, but the county council was granted an extension until June 30 to make up its mind about technical issues, including drainage, ecology, landscaping and ground conditions.

But amended plans were submitted on June 27, with the new plans proposing a reduction to 36 homes.

Northumberland Estates said the changes have been made following comments on the planning application.

The new plans allow for some of the existing trees to be retained on the north-east boundary of the development, reducing the proposal to 36 homes.

No new date has been given for a determination of the planning application.
