DOG walkers and their pooches took a trek around Kielder waterside for charity.

Hexham-based charity Wag and Company held their second ‘Walk for Wag’ event on Saturday, September 23.

The charity aims to target loneliness among the elderly by organising visits with dogs and their owners to care or medical establishments.

The sponsored walk started and finished at Leaplish Waterside Park in Kielder Water and Forest Park, with 133 walkers, 27 children and 96 dogs taking part.

Walkers were given a choice of walking a 3K or 10k route and could also take part in doggy face painting or purchase Wag pom pom hats.

There was also a grand raffle with prizes including a box at the Newcastle Falcons, a Barbour jacket, shopping vouchers and several doggy prizes.

Charity director Diane Morton said: “The day went without a hitch and was enjoyed by everyone who attended. There were a lot of happy but tired doggie painted faces by the end of the event and tired dogs, although their faces weren’t painted!

“Wag and Company would like to thank everyone for Walking for Wag, as every step they took has helped raise much-needed funds to recruit, assess, equip and deploy more and more visiting wag teams.”
