A CYCLIST was airlifted to hospital after seriously injuring his leg in Kielder Forest.

The man, who is believed to be in his 40s, sustained the injury after falling from his bike.

A Great North Air Ambulance helicopter was dispatched to the scene at around 4pm on Thursday, March 3.

The service's trauma team administered pain relief to the cyclist before flying him to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The injury was described as non-life threatening and the man was said to be in a stable condition upon arrival at hospital.
