A POPULAR tea room on the Roman Wall which closed last year is to be converted into a holiday cottage.

Permission has been granted for the St Oswald’s tea room, close to the Heavenfield Church east of Wall village, to continue in tourist use as one-bedroomed accommodation.

The holiday cottage will be located on the ground floor of the building only, where the existing tea room facility is located.

The only external changes are the creation of two ground floor windows to the rear elevation of the building.

Although the site is located within the open countryside and the green belt within the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site, Northumberland County Council planning officer Melanie Francis said the proposal would not have any significant impact, and her recommendation was agreed.
