WARK Town Hall was filled with leeks, onions, flowers, cakes and a whole number of entries last weekend for Wark Leek Show, as villagers gathered to show off their hard work.

The show saw Timmy Wright win the prize for best stand of leeks and he also won the prize for best leek in show.

Treasurer Mike Gibson, said this was quite an achievement, as sometimes the best stand of three leeks does not include the best overall leek.

Roy Bell came second for his leeks but also won first prize for the heaviest three onions, while John Davis won the best flowers in show.

Mr Gibson said: “The show is a good way to get people in the community together and that is helped by the fact we get involved with the local school.

“At the end of the summer term, children at Wark First School all design something to enter into the children’s category.

“They all get a prize for entering and their work is on display at the show.

“A lot of the children come along on the day and bring their parents which is nice because it means more people getting involved in the show.

“Overall it was a good turn-out. There were some lovely flowers, good leeks and onions and the baking and children’s categories were very good. The winners all did very well.”

At the end of the show the entries were auctioned off.
