KIELDER Water and Forest Park hosted more than 150 impressive cars last weekend as the Kielder Vintage and Classic Vehicle Show returned for its 11th year.

The vehicle show is a chance for exhibitors to show off everything from motorcycles to Minis and trucks to tractors.

It got under way on Saturday, when 32 classic cars took to the road at Bellingham, making the journey up to Kielder in preparation for the show on Sunday.

They were joined by over 100 more vehicles in Kielder on Sunday.

Show organiser on behalf of the Forestry Commission,Wesley Turnbull, said: “It was a good show and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day.

“I have been involved in setting it up from the start; the Forestry Commission approached me to help set it up.

“It’s the journey to Kielder which has since been added and we usually get a good turnout seeing us off.

“There has also been an increase in the number of exhibitors coming down from the Scottish Borders; it’s definitely getting more popular with them.”

Alex Maclennan, the recreation and public affairs manager for the Forestry Commission in the North-East, arrived at the show driving his beloved 40-year-old Morris Marina, all the way from the Inverness Highland Classic Vehicle gathering.

He was completing the return journey of around 600 miles over three days, to raise money for Calvert Trust Kielder and the Highland Hospice.

He said: “I was extremely overwhelmed by the number of people who came out to see me off in Inverness. I was really taken aback.

“Equally, the reception I got when I arrived in Kielder was fantastic.

“We had 617 miles on the road free of any problems.”
