THE enterprising people of a North Tyne village have published their own useful handbook for villagers and visitors.

Residents in Humshaugh have created the Humshaugh Handbook 2016 , a 52-page glossy book containing everything you need to know about the village.

A newly formed group, Humshaugh Publications, is responsible for the guide which it is hoped will be produced annually.

The guide has been supported by the parish council and Humshaugh Community Ventures, the group which raises money for the community by running the village shop with its trusty team of volunteers.

The book contains a guide to the parish council, the shop, the village hall, St Peter’s Church, Humshaugh First School, the medical practice, the village playing field and the Crown Inn, as well as sections on all of the activities and organisations that revolve around them.

There are clubs and groups for every interest from art, textiles, badminton, table tennis, adult and youth theatre, wildlife, leeks and cricket.

For a touch of class, there’s even a Ferrari Owners’ Club that meets at the Crown Inn once a month and goes to show just how diverse the village can be.

The guide also includes suggestions for walks in the area to make the most of the picturesque surroundings.

The publication has also been supported by advertising from businesses in and around Humshaugh.

Kirsten Francis, chairman of Humshaugh Parish Council, thanked all those involved, adding: “This excellent publication provides a whole range of information that is useful to residents, telling them what’s going on and who to contact.”

The Humshaugh Handbook has been delivered free to every home in the village and is also available on sale at the village shop for £1.
