A WATER treatment plant at Slaggyford is set to be demolished – but there will be no mess.

The building houses a filtration plant and machinery, but has been left redundant by the introduction of an underground piped system.

Owner Northumbrian Water has applied for formal consent to demolish the building, but promised there will be no rubble or top soil to remove.

The building is prefabricated, and will be simply unbolted, flat-packed, and removed on the back of a wagon.

The site will then be covered in top soil and seeded with grass to match the rest of the area.
