Millie Robinson (19) won the Barbering Apprentice Award 2016 after taking part in a competition at Darlington in January.
The teenager, from Ninebanks, beat other hopefuls to the top spot and received a certificate and trophy.
“The competition was really good, but they can be nerve racking,” Millie said.
“I tried to feel relaxed and just chatted to my model and tried to pretend that I was just in my salon.”
Competitors were marked on several factors, including health and safety and preparation.
The judges named Millie as winner of the northern region, and then, after the scores of the winners from each region were compared, Millie was declared the overall winner.
