A MAN was airlifted to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest in Allendale over the weekend.
Shortly before 6pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Allendale village.
A man, believed to be in his 40s, had suffered a cardiac arrest and CPR was in progress.
An ambulance was dispatched and the Great North Air Ambulance was also called to the scene.
The GNAAS say that an 'heroic' effort was made by bystanders, off-duty paramedics and the mountain rescue team.
Before the helicopter crew arrived at the scene, CPR had begun and a landing area had been prepared.
The GNAAS crew was able to re-start the patient's heart and stabilise him.
The man was then flown to The Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
His condition upon arrival was described as critical.
